The UFC updated their pound-for-pound rankings following Kamaru Usman’s head kick loss to Leon Edwards at UFC 278.

The updated P4P rankings traded out one dominant champ for another following the shocking defeat of Kamaru Usman at the hands (or leg) of Leon Edwards. Alexander Volkanovski and Kamaru Usman were in a tight race for that number-one spot, being the two most dominant champions in the promotion.

Alexander “the Great” Volkanovski most recently defended his featherweight title against Max Holloway at UFC 276, beating the fan-favorite Hawaiin brawler for the third time. While the first two fights were close decisions, this one was a lopsided beatdown in favor of the Australian, prompting many to believe he deserved the #1 spot on the P4P list.

Following Usman’s loss to Edwards, the updated rankings now have Volkanovski as the P4P king, with Israel Adesanya in the second spot and Charles Oliveira rounding out the top 3. Kamaru Usman dropped to 4th, while Leon Edwards finally made the list at 6 despite not being ranked before.

Since vanquishing Holloway for the third time, Volkanovski has had his sights set on a move up towards lightweight. He’s called for the winner of Charles Oliveira vs. Islam Makhachev, which goes down this October at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi.
