Tom Aspinall defeats Sergei Pavlovich via 1st round KO at UFC 295

United Kingdom has their third UFC champion in history.

Tom Aspinall has staked his claim as the baddest man on the planet – continuing his 100% finish rate by knocking out a man who had a UFC record 6 straight 1st round knockouts.

Many fans were high on this matchup – two giant, young, hyper-talented heavyweights that represent the future of the division. Two men with absolute bombs in their hands. Everyone knew this one wasn’t going to go the distance…and it didn’t.

It was a quick night at the office for Aspinall, but not without its hiccups. Pavlovich cracked Aspinall early, getting the Englishman’s attention.

However, once Aspinall found his range, his speed and power proved too much.

The question now is – what’s next for the newly minted interim UFC heavyweight champion? With Jon Jones expected to miss up to a year, it may be some time before Aspinall has a chance to unify the belt. In fact, many expect that both Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will both retire when they eventually fight – and Aspinall will simply be upgraded to undisputed UFC heavyweight champion.

Regardless, the UK has another champion, joining Michael Bisping and Leon Edwards as UFC royalty from across the pond.

Welcome to the Aspinall era, folks.
