Brandon Royval Talks UFC Title Shot, Concussion Recovery, and UFC Vegas 105

In a recent exclusive interview with Inside Fighting’s Mike Owens, UFC flyweight Brandon Royval made it clear why he believes he deserves the next title shot over any other contender in the 125 pound division. As the UFC flyweight title picture continues to take shape, Royval has his sights set firmly on the championship, and his candid remarks left no doubt about his confidence.

When asked about the upcoming flyweight title fight between Kai Kara-France and Alexandre Pantoja, Owens probed Royval about who truly deserves the next title shot: Brandon Moreno, Kai Kara-France, or Manel Kape. Without hesitation, Royval responded bluntly: “None of those motherfuckers. I’m the most deserving. If we’re being factual. I’m the most deserving.”

Royval, who has already faced and defeated some of the top names in the flyweight division, pointed to his record and the fact that he holds victories over all three of the aforementioned fighters. “If we’re saying most deserving, we can get Kai Kara-France and Brandon Moreno out of there,” Royval explained. “Manel Kape hasn’t won against a top 5 opponent ever. Which, I pulled out of our last fight, so I’ll shut the fuck up when it comes to that. But he also, less than a year ago, had the worst UFC performance in history, the most dogshit fight I’ve ever seen. But I think his last two fights he looked fucking great.”

Despite his candid critique of Kape’s earlier performances, Royval ultimately gave credit where it was due. He concluded, “I think Manel Kape has looked really good lately. And if he gets the title shot, I’m okay with that.”

Royval’s honesty wasn’t just limited to the title shot conversation. The flyweight contender also opened up about his recent concussion injury, which kept him sidelined from his scheduled fight with Manel Kape. As one of the most exciting and dynamic fighters in the division, Royval’s absence from the Octagon left many fans wondering when they would see him back in action.

On the road to recovery, Royval confirmed that he’s fully healed and back to training. “It’s getting a lot better, I’m pretty much back to full training… just easing into it and being very smart about how I come back,” Royval shared, expressing his relief after what was undoubtedly a frustrating setback.

Royval, a fighter with an extensive career in MMA, explained that concussions are unfortunately a part of the sport. “I would say I’ve seen 3 concussions since I’ve been away from my concussion,” Royval said. His perspective sheds light on the physical challenges fighters face in training camps, particularly in high-contact sports like MMA.

While Royval’s recovery from his concussion continues, his focus remains on the bigger picture: returning to title contention. The flyweight division remains one of the most competitive in the UFC, but Royval’s self-assurance and determination to earn a shot at the belt are clear.

Looking ahead, Royval is also focused on his teammate, Luis Gurule, who will be making his UFC debut this Saturday at UFC Vegas 105. “I’ll be in his corner for his debut. It’s going to be a great night,” Royval said, demonstrating his commitment to both his personal career and supporting those around him.

As the UFC flyweight division continues to evolve, expect Brandon Royval to make a strong case for his place in the title picture. His candid approach and confidence make him a fighter worth watching, both inside and outside the Octagon.
