Cris "Cyborg" Justino is finally making her pro boxing debut, telling Inside Fighting's Andrew Capucetti she hopes it's a launching pad for a super fight with Katie Taylor.

Cris Cyborg fans won’t have to wait much longer to see the legendary combat sports athlete compete in a boxing ring. Cyborg officially announced her professional boxing debut against Simone Silva, September 25th from her hometown of Curitiba, Brazil.

The most decorated female athlete in combat sports history, Cris Cyborg has won belts in four major MMA promotions, including Bellator (current), the UFC, Strikeforce, and Invicta. She is also a multiple IBJFF gold medalist. A win over Simone Silva would only cement her status as one of the greatest female combat sports athletes of all time, with her sights set on a super fight against Katie Taylor.

“I am excited to return to my hometown of Curitiba, Brazil for my first professional boxing fight,” Cyborg told Andrew Capucetti. “I respect Simone Silva, she is a very durable veteran with almost 40 professional fights and has fought for a World Championship 4 times in her career.” Cyborg is no stranger to championship fights, currently on a 4-fight defense streak of her Bellator featherweight title.

“Hopefully I am able to show my abilities in the boxing ring,” she continued. “I know a lot of fans want a Cyborg vs. Katie Taylor super fight, and my team feels that with a strong performance in Brazil, we will be one step closer to bringing fans the female version of Mayweather vs. McGregor.”

It’s not the first time Cris Cyborg has ventured into other sports. She had a successful stint as a Muay Thai kickboxer in Invicta, winning the AwakeningFighters.com Muay Thai Awards Fight of the Year in 2014 for her showdown against Jorina Baars.

Katie Taylor is the women’s boxing equivalent to Cris Cyborg in MMA, having won titles in two divisions and currently holding the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring 135 lbs titles, making her one of the few truly undisputed champions in boxing today.

A showdown between the greatest female boxer of all time and the greatest female MMA fighter of all time would be huge, with rumors already circulating that a strong showing from Cyborg would lead to the mega-fight happening in December.
