Jake Paul Smashes Tyron Woodley, Calls Out Jorge Masvidal

Last Saturday, Jake Paul made a statement by finishing former Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight kingpin Tyron Woodley in an emphatic fashion. It took only six rounds and a bit for the 24-year-old YouTube superstar to remember everyone that he is a real threat on the boxing ring. Shortly after scoring his fifth victory, Logan Paul’s brother already hinted whom he would like to face next.

The “Paul vs. Woodley 2” card went down in Tampa, Florida, and was arguably the most-anticipated event of the evening. It really says something about Paul’s star power when you consider that last Ultimate Fighting Championship card of the year and the clash for the ages between Mamed Khalidov and Roberto Soldic in KSW aired on the same day. In the main event, Paul faced for the second time the former UFC champion after their first meeting ended with a narrow split-decision victory in favor of the YouTuber. Initially, Paul was scheduled to face Tommy Fury — or “a real boxer,” as some malignant fans say —, but the British fighter pulled out due to injury.

Woodley took the fight on 10 days’ notice, but he looked in good shape as always. What “The Chosen One” lacked was that eye of the tiger that marked his run to become the 170-pound titleholder in the UFC and defend the championship against the likes of Stephen Thompson, Demian Maia, and Darren Till. During the Paul clash, Woodley adopted a cautious strategy by looking for shots from the clinch.

On the other hand, Paul dictated the pace of the fight and scored with his jab and crosses. Despite having so little experience in the ring — he made his professional debut in January 2020 —, he looked at ease in controlling a veteran like Woodley. Paul overcame some difficulty in the third frame when a clash of heads resulted in a cut on the YouTuber’s top of the head. It was the first time he was injured on the squared circle for real. Paul didn’t back down and kept on fighting. When the chance arose, and his opponent dropped his guard, Paul landed a right thermonuclear missile that faceplanted Woodley in the middle of the ring. The official time indicated the 2:12 mark of Round 6. The result is even more impressive when you consider that Woodley had never been left senseless by a strike before Saturday night in his 27-bout MMA run.

Following his win, Paul called out a couple of UFC fighters who were attending the event, Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz. The YouTuber asked them both to get out of their UFC contracts with Dana White and accept his challenge.

“Masvidal and Nate Diaz, y’all are some b*tches for leaving this arena,” Paul said. “‘Cause I know you don’t want that s*it. I’ll take out both of you all next. Just get out of your contract with daddy Dana, and I’m going to f*ck them up, too.”

While Diaz opted not to answer, the one and only Baddest Mother F*cker champion Masvidal didn’t shy away from expressing his thoughts on the challenge. According to “Gamebred,” Paul can’t afford the right purse for him to accept the match.

“Now to address that little b*tch, what’s his face, that f*cker,” Masvidal answered. “Listen, man. You can’t f*cking afford me. Me and the other names that you mentioned, you can’t afford it. I know what you pay. You talk a big game. You say $50 million here, $100 million there, bullsh*t. If that was the case, [Floyd] Mayweather would have took the f*cking fight with your b*tch ass, but he hasn’t because you don’t generate that type of revenue. You’re giving out free tickets. You’ve got street teams giving out free tickets. Who the f*ck are you selling dreams to? You can’t afford me to come over.”

At the moment of writing, the trash-talking between Paul and Masvidal is still ongoing. The YouTuber is pointing out that “Gamebred” is fighting for pennies in the UFC and offered him a $5 million purse plus a percentage of PPV sales to take the fight. In their turn, both Masvidal and his manager answered that the money offered is too low. Instead, Masvidal is inviting Paul to switch to MMA and fight him in the UFC. For now, it seems that the deal is far from being done. Still, things might change quickly, as often do, and the Paul vs. Masvidal fight might go down, provided they can agree on the money.
