Will "The Spider" be the first to defeat Jake Paul?

Several reports indicated that the fight was close to being done, and now it's official. Jake Paul will face former Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva in a boxing clash for the ages that will go down at the Gila River Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, on October 29. The pair will clash in an eight-round, 187-pound contest.

โ€œAnderson โ€˜The Spiderโ€™ Silva is the most versatile fighter the world has ever seen," said Paul in a press release. "Just a year ago he outclassed boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., and showed the world why he is often referred to as the greatest fighter of all time. Every expert, from MMA to boxing, has said Jake Paul wonโ€™t fight Anderson Silva. They said Jake Paul is afraid of Anderson Silva, and Jake Paul would lose to Anderson Silva. Well, to all the non-believers โ€“ Jake Paul is fighting Anderson Silva. Itโ€™s an honor to have the opportunity to share the ring with the greatest UFC striker of all time. On Saturday, October 29, I will walk humbly into the ring, touch gloves with a living legend and do my best to exterminate โ€˜The Spider.โ€™โ€

25-year-old Paul has piled up five consecutive victories as a professional boxer, defeating former UFC welterweight titleholder Tyron Woodley and former Bellator titleholder Ben Askren. The YouTube personality should have locked horns with Tommy Fury and Hasim Rahman Jr., but the fights fall through earlier this month.

Silva, 47, parted ways with the UFC in 2020 after a long stint as the middleweight king. After transitioning to boxing, he did enough to eke out a narrow split-decision victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in June 2021 before smashing fellow former UFC champ Tito Ortiz via first-round knockout in the squared circle. Recently, "The Spider" took on Bruno Azeredo in an exhibition bout in Dubai in May.

โ€œI know that in life everything has its purpose,โ€ Silva said. โ€œNothing comes just by chance. So, I thank God for my health, my family and my team for providing me with this opportunity to continue doing the thing that I love the most. I believe this will be the biggest combat event of the year and will truly make history in the sport forever. See you on Oct. 29.โ€
