Jake Shields is betting on his homie Nate Diaz to beat Khamzat Chimaev in the main event of UFC 279. “I’m going to put money on him,” Shields told Inside Fighting’s Andrew Capucetti. “When I see these odds that don’t make sense to me, I always bet.”
Nate Diaz is currently a heavy underdog against the undefeated welterweight prospect Khamzat Chimaev. But Nate Diaz is no stranger to proving the oddsmakers wrong.
When asked how he thinks the fight plays out, Shields predicted a “late stoppage by Nate. A late TKO or a submission.” He believes that similar to the Conor McGregor fight, Chimaev will be most dangerous in the first two rounds before Diaz finds his rhythm. As the saying goes, Nate Diaz never loses. He just runs out of time. Shields is confident that the momentum will go Nate’s way in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th rounds.
Still, Shields recognizes the danger that Khamzat Chimaev poses. “That first two rounds, Chimaev’s an animal. He is good, man. He deserves the hype. I’m not knocking Chimaev,” Jake stated. “He’s big, he’s huge for the weight, he’s aggressive … that first round is going to be tough.”
