Jiri Prochazka Calls for a Rematch with Glover Teixeira, Aims to Win ‘Clearly’

It appears that the future of the Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight division is already set.

On Monday, current UFC 205-pound titleholder Jiri Prochazka took up to his social media accounts to challenge former divisional kingpin Glover Teixeira to a much-anticipated rematch. Prochazka (29-3-1, 3-0 UFC) has defeated his Brazilian opponent in the UFC 275 headliner thanks to an unexpected rear-naked choke submission with only 28 seconds left in their five-round war. The victory of "Denisa" came after Teixeira (33-8, 16-6 UFC) seemed to be in control of the fight and was ahead on the scorecards. Still, former Rizin Fighting Federation champion Prochazka made the most out of an error coming from his foe and took home the much-coveted title in addition to scoring his 13th consecutive triumph.

Hello everybody. I wish you a great day, and I made [a decision] for my next fight: I want to fight Glover the next fight. Not because it will be another big fight, but just one reason, my performance was bad in the first fight, and I will show you why I’m the champion, clearly, decisively. And I think Glover deserves it. So here’s the offer. I will show you why I’m the champion.

Teixeira hasn't answered the challenge yet. Before losing to Prochazka, he won seven out of eight outings, including a six-bout winning streak. The 42-year-old Brazilian crowned an incredible fighting career when he forced Jan Blachowicz to tap to a rear-naked choke in the UFC 267 headliner, capturing the light heavyweight championship. Ahead of UFC 275, Teixeira was planning to retire after defending the title once. In the few declarations he released post-fight, the Brazilian wasn't committing to anything, but he might reconsider his plans to retire and attempt to capture the divisional championship again. An answer will likely come in the next few hours.
