Johnny Walker Says CBD Negatively Impacted Training - “[It] F**ks Me Up!”

Johnny Walker quit taking CBD supplements heading into his fight against Ion Cutelaba - claiming the small percentage of THC affected his ability to train.

During the UFC 279 press conference held today, light heavyweight Johnny Walker revealed that taking CBD supplements were hurting his performance inside and outside of the Octagon - claiming that the traces of THC affect him more than others.

“There’s nothing against the CBD, it’s just myself, my brain don’t react good,” Walker stated during the press conference. “Maybe I have [ADHD], hyperactivity or something, you know?”

Walker is currently on a two-fight loss skid and is 1-4 over his last five fights. This weekend is his return to action after being knocked out by Jamahal Hill back in February of this year at UFC Fight Night: Walker vs. Hill.

“Every CBD has [a] little bit [of] THC,” Walker continued. “The THC f**ks me up. I get paranoid, I don’t trust nobody, I [arrive] late for training, I don’t follow [a] schedule … I was drugging myself for the last 3 years and I didn’t know this.”

CBD is a compound found in cannabis - more often called weed or marijuana - that is isolated from the plant and sold in supplements. According to the Mayo Clinic, CBD doesn’t contain THC, which is the psychoactive ingredient that produces a high.

Johnny Walker was once considered to be one of the brightest prospects in the light heavyweight division, with many believing that he would be fighting for a title after he scored 3 knockout victories upon joining the UFC. However, he hasn’t been able to find his rhythm since then - losing twice via brutal KO and twice by decision.

For what it’s worth, other UFC athletes have claimed to perform under the influence of cannabis. Jamahal Hill - the last man to beat Walker - had his win over Klidson Abreu overturned due to a failed drug test.

UFC legend Nick Diaz also famously choked out Takanori Gomi in a PRIDE FC bout - in which tests revealed that he had so much THC in his system, he had to have been completely baked during the fight.

Perhaps it’s fitting that a man named after whiskey wouldn’t be a fan of cannabis products.
