UFC Commentator Jon Anik is so certain Irish MMA superstar Conor McGregor will return to the Octagon that he wishes he could get betting lines for it.

In an exclusive interview with Inside Fighting, Jon Anik shared that he is absolutely certain that Conor McGregor will return to action inside a UFC Octagon. When asked if fans would ever see the Irish superstar return to action, Anik replied “No doubt about it. Absolutely. His competitive spirit is undeniable.”

Anik continued, “Even when he took a big break before, I felt like I got this question. ‘Is Conor McGregor gonna come back?’ I wish I could get a betting line on Conor McGregor competing in the UFC in 2023. Absolutely.”

Conor McGregor is recovering from a brutal injury to his left leg during his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier back at UFC 264, breaking both his fibula and tibia. Fans had reason to believe the rehab was going well after McGregor posted videos of him drilling kicks and checks to his Instagram account.

However, when rumors began surfacing that a boxing rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. was in the works, many fans believed that they would never get to see the “Notorious” return to mixed martial arts. Some have speculated that the combination of McGregor’s affinity for boxing and the devastating injury to his leg will lead him to decide to fully transition into the sweet science.

Although he’s been known to claim things aren’t happening right before they happen, UFC president Dana White recently threw water on the idea that a boxing rematch with Mayweather was on the table. When asked about whether or not the rumors were true, White responded that “Conor’s return will be in the cage. Conor’s looking to come back [at] the end of this year, early next year.”

When asked about what opponent the UFC had in mind for McGregor’s return, Dana White said “I really like Chandler vs. Conor after Chandler’s last fight. There’s plenty of fights to make. I don’t know if that’s the one. We’ll see what the landscape looks like when Conor gets back.”

Michael Chandler called out Conor McGregor during his Octagon interview after knocking out Tony Ferguson with a spectacular front kick back at UFC 274 earlier this year. Other names that have been floated as McGregor’s potential next opponent include Nate Diaz, Jorge Masvidal, and even Tony Ferguson himself.

Are you guys as optimistic as Jon Anik about Conor McGregor’s return to the UFC Octagon?
