Recent Hall of Fame inductee and legendary female boxer Mia St. John spoke with Inside Fighting’s Andrew Capucetti, sharing her thoughts on a potential showdown between Cris “Cyborg” Justino and Katie Taylor.
“Wow, that’s exciting!” St. John responded when told about Cyborg’s intention to challenge Taylor after her September 25th bout against Simone Silva. “I am all for Cyborg!”
Not only is Mia willing to cheer for Cyborg from ringside, she also expressed a willingness to help Cris hone her boxing skills. “I would love to,” St. John replied when asked if she would help out Cyborg. “Cris, call me!”
Even as a fan of Cyborg, Mia St. John understands that defeating Katie Taylor is no easy feat. “[Taylor is] the best out there right now,” St. John stated. Taylor is currently a two-weight world champion, holding the undisputed lightweight title since 2019. In addition to her WBA, IBF, WBC and WBO lightweight belts, she also holds the WBO junior-welterweight title.
The Irish boxer is currently 21-0 with 6 knockouts, considered by many to be the greatest female boxer on the planet.
Cris Cyborg is no stranger to massive challenges, and as one of the greatest women MMA fighters of all time, a boxing showdown with Taylor would do big numbers. Cyborg told Inside Fighting that she wants to give boxing fans the female version of McGregor vs. Mayweather, and Mia St. John agrees.
“It’ll definitely be a big draw!” St. John said about the potential bout. She also believes in Cris Cyborg, stating that she can “quite possibly” knock out Katie Taylor due to her incredible strength.
