After a very long time, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is back with a full card on network television.
In the UFC on ABC 3 headliner, former UFC 145-pound title contender Brian Ortega is looking to bounce back on track as he locks horns with Yair Rodriguez. The rise of Ortega (15-2, 1 NC; 7-2, 1 NC UFC) to the divisional ranking's top has been a triumphal march as six out of the seven wins "T-City" scored under the Nevada-based promotion's banner resulted in finishes. The tune changed once Ortega competed for the featherweight championship as he first suffered a fourth-round TKO stoppage at the hands of Max Holloway, then he was dominated by Alexander Volkanosvki in the UFC 266 main event in September. "T-City" officially came in at 146 pounds on the dot on the scales.
Rodriguez is also looking for some consistency with his results. In his latest Octagon appearance, "El Pantera" dropped a unanimous decision to former divisional kingpin Holloway in the UFC Fight Night 197 main event in November. Prior, he outpointed mixed martial arts veteran Jeremy Stephens on all scorecards. Rodriguez also scored one of the best knockouts in sport's history when he left "Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung unconscious thanks to a magnificent elbow. Rodriguez weighed in at 145.4 pounds.
In the co-main event, one-time Invicta FC atomweight titleholder Michelle Waterson faces Amanda Lemos in a 115-pound clash. Both Waterson (18-9, 6-5 UFC) and Lemos (11-2-1, 5-2 UFC) are looking to score a victory after suffering a defeat in their latest outing. On the scales, Lemos officially weighed 116 pounds while Waterson 115 pounds.
All the remaining fighters on the card made weight.
UFC on ABC 3 will go down at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on Saturday, July 16. The main card will air on ABC and ESPN+ at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT. Prelims will begin streaming in the early morning on both ESPN and ESPN+ at 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT.
