The next Ultimate Fighting Championship event features a couple of exciting battles as its main attractions.
In the UFC on ESPN 37 headliner, Calvin Kattar will take on Josh Emmett in a featherweight battle. Kattar (23-5, 7-3 UFC) dominated Giga Chikadze en route to a unanimous decision victory at UFC on ESPN 32 in January. There was a lot of curiosity around Kattar's performance since “The Boston Finisher” was coming off a nasty one-sided loss to Max Holloway in the UFC on ABC 1 headliner in January 2021. Prior, Kattar was on a two-bout winning streak after blasting Jeremy Stephens at UFC 249 and upending Dan Ige at UFC on ESPN 13. On the scale, Kattar recorded 146 pounds.
Emmett (17-2, 8-2 UFC) is 6-1 in his latest assignments but will step into the Octagon on a four-bout winning streak. Recently, the Team Alpha Male representative outpointed Dan Ige on all three scorecards at UFC 269 in December. Emmett recorded 145.5 pounds on the scales.
The co-main event will see UFC veterans Donald Cerrone and Joe Lauzon will collide at lightweight. "Cowboy" Cerrone (36-16, 2NC; 23-13, 1NC UFC) is looking to snap his five-bout skid, with his latest victory dating back to May 2019. Joe Lauzon (28-15, 15-12 UFC) is making his first appearance in the Octagon since October 2019, when he stopped with punches Jonathan Pearce at UFC on ESPN 6. Both Cerrone and Lauzon had no issues making the contracted weight as Cerrone weighted 155 pounds while "J-Lau" came in at 154.75 pounds.
In the remaining battles, only Tony Kelley missed weight ahead of his scheduled clash with Adrian Yanez. Kelley weighed in at 137.5, 1.5 pounds above the limit.
UFC on ESPN 37 will go down at the UFC Apex on June 18. Prelims start on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT on ESPN2 and ESPN+. The action then moves to ESPN and ESPN+ for the main card, which begins at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
