There was some drama going down ahead of the next Ultimate Fighting Championship card.
During the traditional weigh-in ceremony for UFC Vegas 59, Ariane Lipski failed to make weight for her scheduled women's flyweight affair with Priscila Cachoeira. The "Queen of Violence" stepped on the scales at 128.5 pounds, 2.5 pounds over the division's limit. While Cachoeira accepted to face the rival, Lipski will lose a percentage of her purse. Additionally, Sam Alvey struggled to hit the contracted weight for his clash with Michal Oleksiejczuk, as he initially weighed in at 187 pounds. After some time, Alvey dropped to 186 pounds, hitting his proper marks in time.
There were no issues for the main event, which will see Thiago Santos taking on Jamahal Hill. Former UFC light heavyweight contender Santos (22-10, 14-9 UFC) is looking to bounce back on track after dropping a decision to Magomed Ankalaev in the UFC Fight Night 203 headliner in March. "Marreta" easily recorded 206 pounds ahead of his next assignment.
Hill (10-1, 4-1 UFC) has scored back-to-back victories in his latest Octagon appearances after crushing Jimmy Crute and Johnny Walker inside the opening frame of their clashes at UFC on ESPN 31 and UFC Fight Night 201, respectively. Dana White's Contender Series graduate Hill only lost once in his career, a first-round stoppage at the hands of Paul Craig. On the scales, Hill looked good as he came in at 205 pounds.
