Shawn Porter Impressed with Ryan Garcia’s Performance Against Duarte, Except for One Thing (video)
Nobody knows boxing better than Shawn Porter – so his assessment of Ryan Garcia’s performance against Oscar Duarte can be trusted. Porter liked what he saw from Garcia against Duarte – but thinks he needs to improve one key aspect of his game.
Porter was at the Watson Brothers charity basketball event and spoke exclusively with Inside Fighting’s Andrew Capucetti about Ryan Garcia’s big win over Oscar Duarte, breaking down the bout, giving Garcia a grade, and highlighting what he needs to improve on.
Shawn Porter Says Ryan Garcia’s Shoulder Roll Needs Work
“I hated [his shoulder roll,” Porter laughed. “I thought it was effective, only because Duarte [is not] smart enough to figure it out … [Garcia’s defense] was terrible!”
That sounds harsh from the former boxer and current commentator, but Porter didn’t harp on the one hole he saw in Garcia’s game – stating that it was a “great performance overall.”
“B+, A-,” Porter responded when asked to give Ryan Garcia a grade.
Shawn Porter Says Terence Crawford Should Rematch Errol Spence Jr
Porter also shared his thoughts on who Terence Crawford should fight next – stating that the world would love to see the rematch against Errol Spence Jr.
“Everybody wants the rematch,” Porter said. “I think [Spence Jr.] … if he wins. [Either that or] move on and be great against everybody else. It’s hard to be great against Terence.”
