Bizarre Brawl at BKFC 39: Reggie Barnett Jr. Defeats Daniel Alvarez in Wild, Foul-Fueled Fight
It may have been a bare-knuckle boxing event, but that didn’t stop 3 takedowns from happening in the main event – including one by the ref.
BKFC 39 was a great card with a lot of brutal knockouts – but perhaps the most memorable fight was the wild main event. Reggie Barnett Jr. vs. Daniel Alvarez was one of the most bizarre fights in combat sports – making for great entertainment.
Things started to go awry when Alvarez, who has a 4-0 record in MMA, landed an early takedown. The first one was insignificant, but a subsequent slam nearly ended the fight in a disqualification.

That was just the beginning for weird moments in the fight – at one point, the ref separated the fighters because Barnett Jr. was hitting the back of the head. The result? Another takedown – this time by the ref.
Keeping in line with the rest of the bout, the night ended in bizarre fashion yet again – with Barnett Jr. pointing out an injury to Alvarez’s hand before the start of the fourth round, resulting in a TKO victory for him via doctor’s stoppage.
Reggie Barnett Jr. retained his BKFC bantamweight title in a memorable bout that just kept delivering the weirdness.

The co-main event was comparatively quite normal – Britain Hart was able to jab and post all night on Jenny Savage, leading to a successful defense of her BKFC women’s strawweight title.
