Benavidez overcame Plant’s early success to swarm him in the later rounds.

There was a lot of bad blood heading into the showdown between David Benavidez and Caleb Plant – but the beef was settled in the ring. The result was an excellent fight that saw Benavidez adjust to Plant’s early game plan to pick him apart later in the fight. Benavidez ended up winning a unanimous decision, 115-113, 116-112, 117-111.

No glove touch between Benavidez and Plant before the fight.

Plant found success early, utilizing his footwork and movement to dance around Benavidez’s power shots while working jabs to the face and body. The first 6 rounds were tightly contested, but as Plant began to tire, things unraveled for him.

It was a showing out party for Benavidez, who lived up to his name of the “Mexican Monster.” However, Plant can hold his head high, leaving everything in the ring and refusing to be put away. It was a classic brawl between two of the best boxers in the world.

The fight was a tale of two halves – with the first half of the fight being competitive, and the second half being all Benavidez.

Despite the beef heading into the bout, everything was settled in the ring. Both Benavidez and Plant showed respect for each other after their war, highlighting the best boxing has to offer.

Of course, the massive W for David Benavidez sets him up for a mega-fight with fellow Mexican boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez. It’s the fight fans want to see – and Benavidez made a strong case for why it needs to happen.
