Alex Pereira defeats Jiri Prochazka via 2nd round TKO at UFC 295

Alex Pereira has etched his name into the history books – cementing his spot as one of the greatest combat sports athletes of all time.

Fight fans expected a wild fight, and they got exactly that – for as long as it lasted. ‘Poatan’ wrecked Prochazka’s legs with devastating calf kicks in the first round – but things got interesting when the Czech samurai was able to take Pereira down and control him for the rest of the round.

With a compromised leg, Prochazka came out swinging in round 2. He had his moments – but got a bit too reckless, getting to close to Pereira and absorbing his trademark “touch of death” left hook. It was the beginning of the end.

Marc Goddard waived off the fight – and the initial reaction was that it was a criminally early stoppage. The crowd, the fans at home, and even the UFC commentary all thought the fight should have gone on a bit longer. However, after the dust settled, Prochazka cleared the air – declaring that he was indeed out and that it was a good stoppage.

Pereira has now claimed two UFC titles in only his 7th fight with the promotion. With former light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill still in recovery after injuring his knee, ‘Potatan’ called out a familiar opponent – Israel Adesanya.

“Hey Adesanya, come to Daddy,” the terrifying Brazilian declared.

It’s an intriguing callout. Adesanya stated that he doesn’t intend to compete in MMA again until 2027 – but a chance to claim a light heavyweight title against his archnemesis may be too good of an opportunity to pass up.

Whatever happens, it was a historic night at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City. Alex Pereira has proven how special of a fighter he is – continuing his ascension into the upper stratosphere of MMA royalty.
