Nate Diaz Set to ‘Stockton Slap’ Jake Paul in August Boxing Bout
Jake Paul has been campaigning for a fight against Nate Diaz for months – and he finally gets the chance to get whooped by the MMA icon.
“The Problem Child” is getting his taste of Stockton. Nate Diaz and Jake Paul are going to settle the score inside the squared circle – August 5th from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The bout is scheduled for 185 lbs and will be available on DAZN PPV.
Fans have been waiting to see what Nate Diaz would do next after retiring from the UFC after beating Tony Ferguson at UFC 279. The expectation was always that he’d venture into boxing – with a showdown with one of the Paul brothers always a possibility. In fact, Jake Paul has been gunning for the Diaz fight since June, 2021.
Shortly after Nate was released from his UFC contract, Jake Paul claimed he extended an offer to the younger Diaz bro.
That fight didn’t come to fruition – until now. It will be Nate’s first fight since choking out Tony Ferguson last September – and Jake Paul’s first boxing bout since losing to Tommy Fury earlier this year.
“Nate Diaz is considered one of the most bad-ass fighters of all time,” Jake Paul stated after the announcement of the fight. “But he and his team have been running their mouths for too long … on August 5th, a Problem Child is going to piece up and knock out the Stockton G.”
Jake was quick to announce the fight on his Twitter – saying that on “August 5th we commemorate the funeral for Nathaniel Diaz as we send him in casket back to Dana.”
When Nate Diaz gave his Octagon interview at UFC 279, he promised his fans that he would take over another combat sport. Jake Paul is the first roadblock on that quest. “Besides Canelo, he’s the biggest thang in boxing,” Diaz stated. “I’m here to conquer that … I f***ed up Conor [McGregor] for acting out and now here I am again, like a superhero of the Real Fight game, the King of the Real Fight game.”
Jake Paul has built up his boxing career fighting former MMA guys, but Nate Diaz is a drastic step up in competition for him. While the young star may have bitten off more than he can chew, there’s no denying his presence in boxing. Simply put, Nate Diaz vs. Jake Paul is destined to do big numbers.
The fight will be promoted by both Real Fight Inc. and Most Valuable Promotions, the fight banners founded by Nate Diaz and Jake Paul, respectively.
“In choosing to make his boxing debut against Jake Paul, Nate found an opponent where there is an organic, non-scripted backstory that motivates him and will clearly capture the excitement of audiences throughout the world,” Real Fight Inc. president Zach Rosenfield stated. “Together with MPV, we look forward to producing an event worthy of the names of the marquee.”
