PFL 3 2023: Olivier Aubin-Mercier Spoils Shane Burgos’ PFL Debut
Former UFC Featherweight Shane Burgos had his PFL (and lightweight) debut spoiled by Canadian Olivier Aubin-Mercier.
The rough stretch for former UFC fighters in the PFL continues – defending PFL 2022 lightweight champion Olivier Aubin-Mercier put on a smothering performance against Shane Burgos en route to a unanimous decision victory.
“OAM” earned 3 points in the PFL scoreboard in his quest to reclaim the $1 million prize awaiting the season winner.
The difference in the fight proved to be Aubin-Mercier’s grappling – with the Canadian lightweight turning himself into a “backpack” in both the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
Burgos was able to defend, but not much else outside of a last-second onslaught in the final round.
Burgos now joins Marlon Moraes and Thiago Santos in the ranks of former UFC title contenders who have failed to replicate their success in the PFL.
