UFC 290 delivers a super stacked card for International Fight Week.

Alexander Volkanovski is back in action, back down to featherweight to defend his title against surging Mexican dynamo Yair Rodriguez in the main event. It’s one of Volk’s most formidable challenges to date, with Rodriguez bringing a number of explosive and unpredictable techniques that the Australian bruiser will have to be prepared for.

As discussed on the latest episode of How to F**k Up Your Parlay, Volk is the heavy favorite and is expected to win via unanimous decision – but Rodriguez’s kicks present an exciting element that could leave the MMA world completely shocked.

There’s more UFC gold on the line tonight – Brandon Moreno defends his flyweight title against Alexandre Pantoja, a man who has beaten him twice in the past. Moreno is coming off his decisive finish of Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 283, looking to expand his title reign beyond his rivalry with Figgy and get redemption over someone who has two Ws over him.

The odds have the Moreno vs Pantoja bout closer compared to some of the other UFC 290 main card fights, but this version of Brandon Moreno is a far cry from the Moreno who lost to Pantoja on TUF 24 (via rear-naked choke) and unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night: Maia vs Usman back in 2018. Many believe Moreno will have a clear advantage on the feet – especially in the boxing exchanges – while Pantoja has an edge in the grappling department.

Also featured on the card is a middleweight contenders bout between former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and the surging South African prospect Dricus du Plessis. Current 185-kingpin Israel Adesanya is in Las Vegas and will be in the UFC 290 crowd, presumably to scope out the talent. The winner of this fight will likely be Adesanya’s next opponent.

More notable fights include Jalin Turner vs Dan Hooker, a fight that had been canceled but is finally happening, as well as the return to action for the highly-touted prospect Bo Nickal. The featured fight of the prelims is Robbie Lawler vs Niko Price in what is expected to be Lawler’s final fight in MMA competition.

The UFC 290 early prelims are set for 6 PM ET/3 PM PT, with the prelims set for 8 PM ET/5 PM PT and the main card slated for 10 PM ET/7 PM ET. The event is available for purchase on ESPN+ PPV.
