Dustin Poirier to be Released from Hospital After Brutal Infection, Conor McGregor Still Chirping on Twitter
Dustin “the Diamond” Poirier tweeted that he’ll be released from the hospital tomorrow - but the Twitter battle between Poirier, Conor McGregor, and Nate Diaz rages on.
Dustin Poirier’s war with a brutal staph infection may be coming to a close - but the war of words on Twitter may just be beginning.
Poirier revealed yesterday that he has been in the hospital for a few days - later tweeting out a gruesome image of his infected foot.
Staph is a common - and potentially lethal - infection in the combat sports world. Luckily, Dustin tweeted some good news today - he’ll be discharged from the hospital tomorrow morning. Hopefully that means he can return to the Octagon to make good on the fighting words exchange between himself, Conor McGregor, and Nate Diaz.
At first, McGregor joined the MMA community in wishing Dustin a speedy recovery. “Heal up soon, scruffy knickers,” McGregor responded to a tweet revealing the staph infection.
Things took a turn, when Poirier clapped back with an invitation for the Irishman to get “slapped around again.”
McGregor responded in kind with a since-deleted tweet, stating “You weren’t just hurt, pal. You were scared hurt don’t forget it. I’m coming back to put you in a box. Full of it. I’m sending you off this earth. Permanent. Stay waiting for the road house as well pal you and the missus will love it, [sic]” the Notorious tweeted.
McGregor’s last two fights were against Poirier - who knocked him out at UFC 257 and won via TKO (doctor’s stoppage) after Conor snapped his leg at UFC 264. McGregor hasn’t fought since then - but may want to return to settle the score against Poirier, once and for all.
Of course, UFC legend Nate Diaz was none too impressed with the Twitter feud. He dropped a tweet to let them know which of the trio doesn’t get finished, stating “you both get knocked out all the time.”
Poirier put his rivalry against McGregor aside for a chance to respond to Diaz - a fight the two have wanted for years, but never materialized in the UFC.
