The band is back together. Legendary BJJ and MMA coach Cesar Gracie got his star pupils on the mats for a reunion nearly a decade in the making. The original lineup of the Skrap Pack featured Gilbert Melendez, Nick and Nate Diaz, Jake Shields, Daniel Roberts, and David Terrell.
Depending how far back you go in your UFC fandom, you may remember the infamous Nashville Brawl. Skrap Pack OG Jake Shields beat Dan Henderson to retain his Strikeforce middleweight title, but when Shields was giving his in-cage interview, Jason “Mayhem” Miller crashed the party. Thing is, you don’t mess with the Skrap Pack. The whole team went to war, throwing hands at Miller and his team for having the audacity to try and ruin their homie’s moment.
It was probably the craziest night in Strikeforce history, but it’s exactly what you’d expect from such a tight-knit group like the Skrap Pack. Talk sh*t, get hit.
While not everyone in the group was there, it was awesome to see the big names of the Skrap Pack training together. The brothers came out en force to back Nate Diaz, the most active of the bunch, who is headlining UFC 279 next month against Khamzat Chimaev. And it looks like explosive submissions are part of their gameplan.
This begs the question - will the Skrap Pack be in Nate Diaz’s corner for the UFC 279 main event? And will Chimaev’s team have the balls to confront them in the Octagon after Nate Diaz reminds the world exactly who he is?
Us old school UFC fans can only hope.
